Mayon Volcano to Erupt on New Year?
Currently on Alert Level 3, the Mayon Volcano can have a major eruption next week, pass the Christmas and New Year season, as said by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). This prediction is due to the increase of ash emissions from the past days.
Mayon Volcano, known for its cone shape, is the most active Philippine volcano which has blown for around 40 times in 400 years. Because of the sudden ash emissions which turn out to indicate its eruption in the next few weeks, residents in the danger zone are already forced to evacuate.
P98 million worth of relief goods is underway to Albay for the residents who will be greatly affected by the eruption. DOH has also designated six units on the area in preparation of epidemic dispersal during the relief operations in Bicol.
