Manny Villar in Kandidato Interview

This is the April 28 episode of Kandidato, television’s toughest job interview, Nacionalista Party presidential bet Senator Manny Villar gets grilled by Arnold Clavio, Howie Severino, and Malou Mangahas on the topics surrounding his candidacy.

These are my reactions regarding the Manny Villar Kandidato Job Interview.

On Personality

What I like with Villar is his consistency. His answer on which Philippine hero does he idolize is Andres Bonifacio, who like him, came from the poor, worked hard and is very brave. He has also shown me how great of a father and a family man he is – he brought his kids well, he said his happiest times are being with his family and children especially when they are all together celebrating New Year and Christmas.

He has also shown how strong-willed he is that every single time he discovers his weaknesses, he always makes a way to combat it by himself. He wants to remain strong. He also stresses on how he dislikes hypocrites who are telling things which they cannot adhere to in the future. He also despises arrogant people. When he was asked on the things that he wants to change in himself – he naturally said he doesn’t bother thinking about it especially now that he’s old because he always finds a way to adjust and combat his weaknesses. I find this very important as a president should be disciplined and goal-oriented, that if he focused on something – he will for sure get the job done.

When asked about luxuries, he said that whenever there are new things he encounter, he will normally try them just to experience the feeling but he won’t get addicted to it. This goes to show how simple his happiness can be. He doesn’t need luxury. Yes, he may have gret cars or houses – but its normal for someone like him who rose from the poor to aspire for a better and more comfortable setup.

He was also asked what is the greatest thing he has ever done for his country. He said that he had already fulfilled his ambition to be wealthy and that is for himself. What is important is that after that, he has helped a lot of people and he considers it the greatest thing he has ever done and that is why he needs to get the President seat so he can help a lot more people and he can fulfill another ambition which is ending poverty in the country.

On Platform

Regarding on platform, I loved how he emphasized the importance of leadership, management skills and capability to inspire – competence. This then separates him from other candidates who has similar platforms with him. He definitely makes us believe he has all the approach and techniques he can do to solve our problems. It boils down to the ability to lead and run the country, the experience in governing a populace. He also stressed that there are candidates who can easily memorize the platforms made by their sorties, he emphasizes on what he has done is the best basis on what he can do in the future.

Also, his takes on different national issues were practical and he answers in a conversational and natural way – he answers not to impress but to express and inform. He also plans in eradicating corruption in the government and impress people that in the first hundred days of his term, everything will be transparent. He also defended himself from rumors of his corruption of government’s funds when he said “Hindi ako kumuha ng pera ng gobyerno.”

His consistency in his ambition to help the poor is very obvious all through out the interview focusing on education needs, employment and health care. He always has stands and stands which are practical and attainable. He also stresses on the fact that he has sufficient knowledge on the economy and management as well as business which can really make our foreign debts less and our economy to rise.

His take on population and the RH bill is somehow unique from other candidates. He believes it should not be imposed as a country will remain sturdy and successful even if the population is big – what’s important is the competency and the ability to lead and run the country. He also solidified the fact that he is not the administration’s pawn and that there is no Villaroyo when he answered that charter change is not a priority in a very calm and natural manner. He believes that in a country, a great leadership is needed as a country should be sturdy and surviving regardless of any form of government.

If you want to know more about his platforms and his answers on issues and rumors his detractors are spreading, watch the videos – in a very natural and calm way, he had explained everything. If you take a moment just to look at him and with the way he speaks, he is definitely impressive. You will see how important this is to him – to help people and for his advocacy to come true. You will see how prepared and focused he is and how he has made valiant steps to reach his goals. I believe that Manny Villar is one of the candidates who is ready to become our next president. He is one of the fittest, if not the fittest for the president seat.

Regarding the hosts, I see a tinge of bias treatment with regards to Arnold Clavio’s follow up questions but the rest have maintained proper panel techniques and they were great in motivating their interviewee to answer. Anyway, this investigative journalism approach is fun to watch though :)
