Tsunami to Hit the Philippines and the Pacific

After an 8.8-magnitude earthquake hit Chile yesterday, it was believed that a tsunami would behitting the coastal lines of the countries around the Pacific, which includes our very own country, the Philippines.

According to Yahoo! News, the earthquake collapsed bridges, plunged trucks and toppled homes threatening about a fourths of the globe, containing countries around the Pacific Ocean. Many people were killed. Many roads were destroyed with water, electricity and phone lines being cut in lots of areas in Chile.

Lead The Change 2010

This February 17th, the Knowledge Channel Foundation will be holding first of its kind event, Lead the Change 2010, which aims to gather the nation’s most influential people which would be interacting with each other in a night of intelligent forum on how to mobilize the country and help Philippines move forward. Each person shall answer questions with respective to their core principles in business, governance and social development. This event is a living testament of Knowledge Channel’s objective to educate people, most especially the youth, through online learning.

According to Knowledge Channel president Rina Bautista, they are expecting attendance from the most prominent figures in business and the government today, each of which will be contributing their thoughts on meeting the expections of the 21st century in different sectors of the country such as education, population, peace, environment, health and governance. Lead the Change 2010 will be collaborative effort to provide basic knowledge that would be detrimental in moving the drivers of minimizing poverty in the country.

Ms. Peggy Rockefeller, founder of Global Philanthropists Circle and Synergos Institute will be the guest honor for the nioght whiole Oscar Lopez, Chair of the Lopez Group of Companies and Chair of the Knowledge Channel Foundation will also be there to inspire the viewers to Lead the Change this coming year.

Mayon Volcano to Erupt on New Year?

Currently on Alert Level 3, the Mayon Volcano can have a major eruption next week, pass the Christmas and New Year season, as said by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). This prediction is due to the increase of ash emissions from the past days.

Mar Roxas – Korina Sanchez Wedding of the Year

Mar Roxas and Korina Sanchez are set to be wed today, October 27 at the Sto. Domingo Church, Quezon City.

The previous plan to have the reception at the Araneta Coliseum right after, was cancelled, as both sides agreed to donate the money to various charity organizations to extend their hands to those who were badly hit by the typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

No Classes Up To Saturday in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Philippines

CHED and DepEd announces no classes for all levels up to Saturday this week, September 28, 29, 30, October 1, 2, 3.

For UP Diliman students: the academic calendar will be adjusted. A memorandum regarding this matter will be disseminated – Chancellor Cao.

End of (class) days in UP Diliman is on Oct 13. Finals from Oct 15-22. Submission of grades up to Oct 30 (nongraduating)

No Classes up to Tuesday in Manila, Philippines

Due to Typhoon Ondoy’s aftermath, the classes are suspended in elementary and high school levels up to Tuesday, September 29, 2009.

College students will resume classes on Tuesday, September 29 at some areas outside NCR.

Hotlines, Volunteer Corps and Fund Drives for Typhoon Ondoy Victims in the Philippines

Tropical Typhoon Ketsana (Ondoy – local name) hits the Philippines and made a landfall on Luzon yesterday bringing huge floods in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon.

Thousands of night workers and those who went to school and offices in the morning were still stranded and unrescued. Major highways were shut down due to floods and aftermaths of the typhoon. NAIA terminals have also cancelled flights and domestic flights around the country were stopped.

In some areas near the biggest dams in the metro which overflowed, the floods have reached up to six feet.

Ondoy Fever

While I sleep in the dormitory, people are dying.

The Ondoy fever is on and we are all in danger. Scary it is, but in one night, the Philippines might get submerged in rat poo and trash juice.
